SLJ : Week 1 - Day 4 : More than meets the eye

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY
- BY: Isla

TOPIC:
" More than meets the eye ".

My learning goal for today is to aim high like Sir . Edmund Hillary and accomplish my dreams. My dream is to someday climb a mountain so I have added in a short animation about mountain climbing.

TASK ONE:
Today my first task is to think of five questions to ask Sir. Edmund Hillary. We had to create these questions and imagine that we were interviewing Sir . Edmund Hillary in real life.
  1.  How old were you when you first started learning to Mountain climb.
  2.  Did you have anyone with you at the time when you were climbing Mt . Everest?
  3.  What did you think of the view when you reached the peak of Mt . Everest?
  4.  How old were you when you climbed Mt . Everest?
  5.  What is it like being world famous and being on the New Zealand five dollar note?

TASK TWO:
Today my second task was to choose one of my favorite foods and tell my viewers how to make it. So I decided why not make pizza. I mean who doesn't like pizza? So today I have decided to create this on a google drawing instead of making lots of slideshows.

TASK THREE:
My final task today was to create my own hotel out of anything. If I could make my hotel out of anything it would probably have to be a gingerbread house like the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. Today I decided to create this on google drawings to earn an extra five points.

If you could design a hotel and make it out of anything you wanted what would you make?
In the comment section tell me what you would make a hotel out of. I would love to hear your ideas!

SLJ : Week 1 - Day 3 : Awesome animals

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY
- BY: Isla

TOPIC:
" Awesome animals ".

Hi viewers! Today , just like every day I have to complete three tasks. I was super excited for Today because I absolutely love animals. Who doesn't? My learning goal for Today is to try make my posts as creative as I can.

TASK ONE:
My first task was to watch the Fantastic beasts and where to find them book trailer. I was set to create after watching it to create my own fantastic beast. I created this on a google slide so then you can full screen it to see the words a lot easier.

TASK TWO:
My second task today was to list three good things about being a DOC Ranger and three bad things about it.
FACT: Did you know that the Chevron skink is least common to find in New Zealand but can only be found in great barrier Island and little barrier Island?

3 GOOD REASONS ABOUT BEING A DOC RANGER:

  1.  If you are a DOC Ranger you are the only ones allowed on that Island.
  2.  You can help look after animals.
  3.  You are allowed to live on the Island.
3 BAD REASONS ABOUT BEING A DOC RANGER:
  1.  It isn't fair that nobody else is allowed on the Island.
  2.  There could be dangers.
  3.  You might miss your family if you lived on the Island.
I think being a DOC Ranger would be really cool because you can help look after plants and animals on the Island. But at the same time I personally wouldn't want to be one because if you lived on the Island you could be far away from home and then you might miss your family. So that 's a no about being a DOC Ranger.

TASK THREE:
My last activity for today was to describe in full sentences what the WWF is doing to help animals world wide. Their were two different animals I could choose from. Tigers or Freshwater seals I personally like cats so I decided to choose Tigers. I also found this really cool picture of three tigers bathing in mud.

1. The WWF is working to help save tigers.
2. The WWF is tracking down Tigers and counting how many there are to help save them so they know how many there are left in the world.
2. If in any success the WWF has a very large possibility of helping save Tigers lives.

SLJ - Week 1 - Day 2: Giants Among Us

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY
- BY: Isla

TOPIC:
" Giants among us ".

Today I had another three tasks that I had to complete. My learning goal for today is to try make my work more interesting so that my viewers can enjoy reading it.

TASK ONE:
QUESTION: Would you like to visit Tane Mahuta?
Today I was asked if I would like to visit Tane Mahuta. I had to have a little think about this for a moment and then decided that actually visiting Tane Mahuta in real life would be really interesting. Tane Mahuta lives in the Waipoua forest in North land. Tane Mahuta is an endemic tree to New Zealand and is also referred to sometimes as " the Lord of the forest ". Did you know that Tane Mahuta is actually the largest Kauri tree in the Waipoua forest.

TASK TWO:
My second task for today was to research about three famous sporting teams that have the word fern in their name and say what uniform of theirs that I liked best.

TASK THREE:
My final task for today was to solve a math problem. The math problem was that if I had a cactus plant and it needed 3 milliliters of water per day that over a full year how much water would I have given it. First there are 365 days in a year that means that 365 times 3 would make the answer 1095 milliliters. But how I solved it was that 300 x 3 is 900 but if I times 65 by 3 it would make that answer 195 add that onto 900 and it would make it 1095.

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY

TODAY'S TOPIC:
" A place to stand ".
This week I am going to be learning all about New Zealand land marks. Today my focus was to accomplish three activities about New Zealand. I hope you enjoy reading my work.

TASK ONE:
Our first task was to research three facts about Maori legends. I created a animation on google slides to try make my work more interesting.

TASK TWO:
My second task today was to describe what I love about my hometown.

I was born in Blenheim and grew up in Christchurch from a very young age. The most important thing to me about Christchurch(My home town.)is the landscapes and the amazing buildings. I love going for walks along the hills and viewing the city center below.

TASK THREE:
My final task for today was to copy an image from the summer learning journey site and copy it to this post and create a diagram of a smart footprint.

If you are questioning how to create a positive , digital , footprint I am here to answer that. First of all you have to be smart online.

  • STEP ONE: Do not share any personal or private inforation online. e.g ( passwords , phone numbers and your last name.
  • STEP TWO: Be aware of scammers and hackers.
  • STEP THREE: Do not share online where you live or where you meet up after school on chat rooms or any public chats.
Stay safe and happy holidays!
