SLJ : Week 1 - Day 4 : More than meets the eye

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY
- BY: Isla

TOPIC:
" More than meets the eye ".

My learning goal for today is to aim high like Sir . Edmund Hillary and accomplish my dreams. My dream is to someday climb a mountain so I have added in a short animation about mountain climbing.

TASK ONE:
Today my first task is to think of five questions to ask Sir. Edmund Hillary. We had to create these questions and imagine that we were interviewing Sir . Edmund Hillary in real life.
  1.  How old were you when you first started learning to Mountain climb.
  2.  Did you have anyone with you at the time when you were climbing Mt . Everest?
  3.  What did you think of the view when you reached the peak of Mt . Everest?
  4.  How old were you when you climbed Mt . Everest?
  5.  What is it like being world famous and being on the New Zealand five dollar note?

TASK TWO:
Today my second task was to choose one of my favorite foods and tell my viewers how to make it. So I decided why not make pizza. I mean who doesn't like pizza? So today I have decided to create this on a google drawing instead of making lots of slideshows.

TASK THREE:
My final task today was to create my own hotel out of anything. If I could make my hotel out of anything it would probably have to be a gingerbread house like the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. Today I decided to create this on google drawings to earn an extra five points.

If you could design a hotel and make it out of anything you wanted what would you make?
In the comment section tell me what you would make a hotel out of. I would love to hear your ideas!

  1. Good afternoon Isla,

It is AWESOME to see how you are keeping up with all the daily activities posted on the SLJ website. I have to say I am super impressed with the way you have managed to make your posts look so creative, fun and exciting. Keep up the good work and aim high as you said - remember there will be prizes for the bonus activities as well as the winner for this year's Summer Learning Journey.

I liked the way you made a short animation about mountain climbing. It was pretty realistic because no one would be able to climb a mountain like Mount Everest all in one go! It is important to take lots of breaks in the middle especially under extreme climate condition.

I also love pizza as much as you do and I sometimes do make homemade pizza in my kitchen. You recipe looks pretty good - have you tried making your own pizza yet? To be completely honest with you, I have never made my own pizza dough before. Maybe next time I should try making pizza from scratch.

If I could design a hotel, I would probably make it out of strong recycled material. I know that plastic wastage is a big issue around the world so I would somehow build a hotel by re-modelling recycled plastic! I recently found this video online which I think might be worth sharing with you. It is a trailer for a documentary about a Canadian couple who went waste free for one full year.

It is pretty interesting and eye-opening so you should check it out! Let me know what you think :)

  2. I forget to mention - Remember if you are going to use images that you have found online, you need to make sure that you attribute them (give credit) to the owner.

All the images will need to be attributed correctly if you wish to gain full points for the activities!
