SLJ : Week 1 - Day 4 : More than meets the eye

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY
- BY: Isla

TOPIC:
" More than meets the eye ".

My learning goal for today is to aim high like Sir . Edmund Hillary and accomplish my dreams. My dream is to someday climb a mountain so I have added in a short animation about mountain climbing.

TASK ONE:
Today my first task is to think of five questions to ask Sir. Edmund Hillary. We had to create these questions and imagine that we were interviewing Sir . Edmund Hillary in real life.
  1.  How old were you when you first started learning to Mountain climb.
  2.  Did you have anyone with you at the time when you were climbing Mt . Everest?
  3.  What did you think of the view when you reached the peak of Mt . Everest?
  4.  How old were you when you climbed Mt . Everest?
  5.  What is it like being world famous and being on the New Zealand five dollar note?

TASK TWO:
Today my second task was to choose one of my favorite foods and tell my viewers how to make it. So I decided why not make pizza. I mean who doesn't like pizza? So today I have decided to create this on a google drawing instead of making lots of slideshows.

TASK THREE:
My final task today was to create my own hotel out of anything. If I could make my hotel out of anything it would probably have to be a gingerbread house like the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. Today I decided to create this on google drawings to earn an extra five points.

If you could design a hotel and make it out of anything you wanted what would you make?
In the comment section tell me what you would make a hotel out of. I would love to hear your ideas!

SLJ : Week 1 - Day 3 : Awesome animals

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY
- BY: Isla

TOPIC:
" Awesome animals ".

Hi viewers! Today , just like every day I have to complete three tasks. I was super excited for Today because I absolutely love animals. Who doesn't? My learning goal for Today is to try make my posts as creative as I can.

TASK ONE:
My first task was to watch the Fantastic beasts and where to find them book trailer. I was set to create after watching it to create my own fantastic beast. I created this on a google slide so then you can full screen it to see the words a lot easier.

TASK TWO:
My second task today was to list three good things about being a DOC Ranger and three bad things about it.
FACT: Did you know that the Chevron skink is least common to find in New Zealand but can only be found in great barrier Island and little barrier Island?

3 GOOD REASONS ABOUT BEING A DOC RANGER:

  1.  If you are a DOC Ranger you are the only ones allowed on that Island.
  2.  You can help look after animals.
  3.  You are allowed to live on the Island.
3 BAD REASONS ABOUT BEING A DOC RANGER:
  1.  It isn't fair that nobody else is allowed on the Island.
  2.  There could be dangers.
  3.  You might miss your family if you lived on the Island.
I think being a DOC Ranger would be really cool because you can help look after plants and animals on the Island. But at the same time I personally wouldn't want to be one because if you lived on the Island you could be far away from home and then you might miss your family. So that 's a no about being a DOC Ranger.

TASK THREE:
My last activity for today was to describe in full sentences what the WWF is doing to help animals world wide. Their were two different animals I could choose from. Tigers or Freshwater seals I personally like cats so I decided to choose Tigers. I also found this really cool picture of three tigers bathing in mud.

1. The WWF is working to help save tigers.
2. The WWF is tracking down Tigers and counting how many there are to help save them so they know how many there are left in the world.
2. If in any success the WWF has a very large possibility of helping save Tigers lives.

SLJ - Week 1 - Day 2: Giants Among Us

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY
- BY: Isla

TOPIC:
" Giants among us ".

Today I had another three tasks that I had to complete. My learning goal for today is to try make my work more interesting so that my viewers can enjoy reading it.

TASK ONE:
QUESTION: Would you like to visit Tane Mahuta?
Today I was asked if I would like to visit Tane Mahuta. I had to have a little think about this for a moment and then decided that actually visiting Tane Mahuta in real life would be really interesting. Tane Mahuta lives in the Waipoua forest in North land. Tane Mahuta is an endemic tree to New Zealand and is also referred to sometimes as " the Lord of the forest ". Did you know that Tane Mahuta is actually the largest Kauri tree in the Waipoua forest.

TASK TWO:
My second task for today was to research about three famous sporting teams that have the word fern in their name and say what uniform of theirs that I liked best.

TASK THREE:
My final task for today was to solve a math problem. The math problem was that if I had a cactus plant and it needed 3 milliliters of water per day that over a full year how much water would I have given it. First there are 365 days in a year that means that 365 times 3 would make the answer 1095 milliliters. But how I solved it was that 300 x 3 is 900 but if I times 65 by 3 it would make that answer 195 add that onto 900 and it would make it 1095.

SLJ: Week 1 - Day 1: In the beginning

SUMMER LEARNING JOURNEY
- BY: Isla
TODAY'S TOPIC:
" A place to stand ".
This week I am going to be learning all about New Zealand land marks. Today my focus was to accomplish three activities about New Zealand. I hope you enjoy reading my work.

TASK ONE:
Our first task was to research three facts about Maori legends. I created a animation on google slides to try make my work more interesting.

TASK TWO:
My second task today was to describe what I love about my hometown.

I was born in Blenheim and grew up in Christchurch from a very young age. The most important thing to me about Christchurch(My home town.)is the landscapes and the amazing buildings. I love going for walks along the hills and viewing the city center below.

TASK THREE:
My final task for today was to copy an image from the summer learning journey site and copy it to this post and create a diagram of a smart footprint.

If you are questioning how to create a positive , digital , footprint I am here to answer that. First of all you have to be smart online.

  • STEP ONE: Do not share any personal or private inforation online. e.g ( passwords , phone numbers and your last name.
  • STEP TWO: Be aware of scammers and hackers.
  • STEP THREE: Do not share online where you live or where you meet up after school on chat rooms or any public chats.
Stay safe and happy holidays!

A & P SHOW WRITING

A & P SHOW WRITING

INTRODUCTION:
The A & P show is a fun an interactive fair in Christchurch. People should go to the A & P show because their are lots of really exciting things to see and do.

ANIMALS AND EXCITEMENT:
If you take a look down the right side of the show you will find yourself by a gigantic green shed where there are animals galore from all over Christchurch. There are so many animals to see like rams , bulls , pigs , ducks and more!
Down the far end of the shed their hangs an enormous banner saying “ BABY ANIMAL FARMYARD “ , where you can see so many cute baby animals. There is also a hive of bees and the competition is to find the queen be and a win a free honey lozenger. In the baby animal farmyard you will find piglets , bunnies , chickens and even big fat turkeys!

FREEBIES:
There are many things at the A & P show but if you take a look down the left side of the show , in the distance you can probably spot a humongous gray shed with a red stripe across the top about 2 metres from the roof. As you walk into the shed there will be so many freebies like , lollies , fans , friz - bees and even a discount on a mop. But that's not all you can find for free. As you walk off outside there is a paddock with professional horse riders and you can even pat them. You will soon close to an exit and find across the wavy green grass the Fonterra milk challenge. First you download the app on a phone then you find an answer all the questions and if you find them all you score a free smoothie on a smoothie bike plus you get a free drink bottle and wristbands.

PHYSICAL SPORTS:
There are also lots of sports at the A & P show that you probably never would have thought of like woodchopping , gumboot throwing , horse riding and so much more! While I had a go at the gumboot throw I didn’t exactly score very far because the gumboot can actually be pretty heavy. The horse riders are professional as I may have explained and it is held in a gigantic white ring on the far left side of the show.

CONCLUSION:

Now from all of these fantastic facts I think you should go to the A & P show because there are so many amazing things to see and do!

T4 Wk 5 - MY FIREWORKS OPINION

MY FIREWORKS OPINION

THE DANGERS OF FIREWORKS:
My opinion on fireworks is that fireworks should only be allowed at a certain time of year in public displays. Fireworks should not be sold to the public in back yards because they can scare animals and disturb neighbors. The problem is that not everyone can afford to watch public firework displays. The only time of year that fireworks should be sold is on the New Zealand calendar. The only type of fireworks that should be allowed are sparklers because they are safer to handle. Fireworks should be sold in stores but only on public events.
THE FIREWORK DUCK:
There have been many injuries caused by animal cruelty and one of them is what I will tell you today. One guy fawkes night a fully grown adult duck had fireworks placed into its beak by an unknown victim. Sadly the fireworks exploded in the duck’s mouth, breaking it. It was found by the SPCA veterinary in Auckland and had to be put to death.
THE NEW ZEALAND CALENDAR:
I strongly think that fireworks should still be sold in stores but only on New Zealand public holidays because Guy fawkes is on the Europe calendar and is about blowing up parliament. Parihaka happened on the exact same day of Guy fawkes and I think instead of celebrating things that originate from other countries we should remember Parihaka , the day our land was taken from us Maori and there was made a peaceful protest and Te Whiti o rongomai stood tall.
THE LIVES AND DEATHS OF FIREWORK ACCIDENTS:
On July 5, 2016, a 26-year-old male from Kansas fell off the roof of his home after a mortar type of fireworks device exploded in his hand near his chest. According to the witnesses, the victim was on his roof shooting firearms and the explosion knocked the victim backwards off the roof. On May 15, 2016, a 38-year-old male from Arizona was fatally injured in the garage of his single-family home while apparently attempting to manufacture fireworks. In the victim’s home, investigators found a large quantity of fireworks and firework manufacturing components, which had been purchased online from an out-of-state supplier.
CONCLUSION:
From all of these horrid accidents we now know that fireworks should be sold in stores and can be let off in your back yard but just to be careful and not light them near dry grass , make sure if you have animals keep them inside and to only let them off on concrete and make sure that small children stay back.

WDYM T 3 summaries

 WDYM T 3 summaries:

Our task: Our reading group has been working on creating a summarie about the book that we have read an giving eachother feedback on what we could do next time.

How i did it: I created my summarie by adding a text box on the group doc and writing a summarie.

:My summarie:

Isla

This week we had a text called “the Prince and the Albatross Egg”.
It is about some children from two schools who gathered together to create a recording with the prince from wellington and Dunedin. They worked on creating a project of an royal albatross and painted and decorated it. The prince came to Wellington to help and watch the recording about the royal albatross with one tricky question, “ can you eat the Albatross eggs “. The children and teachers were astonished and said that you would never eat an albatross egg because they are so rare in New Zealand because you do not see them much. The Kids watched the TV as it was played so that everybody could see it and that was their plan.

Feedback: I hope you enjoyed taking a look at my summarie about the Prince and the Albatross Egg. I have been working really hard and I would really appreciate it if you gave me some feedback on using correct speech marks and putting my an ' s and a ' s in the right places. Thank you for taking some time to take a look at my work. Thanks.

The prince and the albatross egg - My family tree

:The Prince and the Albatross Egg:

Our task: Last week our group task was to create our family tree.

How did I create it: I created my family tree by using squares from the shapes icon and used straight lines from the line icon and presented it by google slides. The background was the tree on sirus island from the fairytail anime.

: Work slide:

Feedback: I hope you enjoyed veiwing the roots of my family tree. I would really like some feedback on how I could set out my family tree next time or if I need to use more slides to explain it or spot anything that I have missed out on my google slide.
Thanks!

POEMS:

Banana

Banana is a fluffy , mischievous yellow fruit bat.
His eyes of gold flash in the night.
And an aroma of sweet banana biscuits fills his little mouth.
Black flapping wings sore throughout the thundering storm clouds.
His touch like a soft, silky, leather patch in your jacket.
He is always carrying a bunch of bananas like Aroha in the sky.

With his sweet , screechy voice he yells” let the sun set a place in your happy heart”.

Fruit bats

Fruit bats
Written by Isla Aroha Tombs
Introduction:
Fruit bats are one of the cutest wild flying animals on earth but are only found in certain countries like Asia , Europe , Australia and Africa in dense forests such as the rainforest. They are also known as flying foxes and live in huge colonies such as “camps”
What do fruit bats eat?:
It is obvious to the name of the fruit bat that they only eat fruit and are known as Frugivores.  Fruit bats fly around in forests and usually pick oranges or fruits that grow on the ground like watermelons and pineapples and sometimes fly up 10 - metre tall banana trees in the rainforest near Africa.
Fruit bat facts
  1. Did you know that the average fruit bat travels up to 3 million k’s a day in search of fruit?
  2. Did you know that baby fruit bats sleep with their parents until they are eight months old?
  3. Fruit Bats can’t be kept as pets because they only last a year in a house but they live up to 25 years in the wild.
What is the daily routine of a fruit bat?:

The daily routine of a fruit bat is sleeping. Fruit bats sleep upside down and rap their rubbery black wings around their fluffy bodys and attach their black sharp claws to branches or cave ceilings. Fruit bats usually eat sleep and play as part of their daily routine. Baby fruit bats cling onto their parents and sleep on top of them while clinging upside down. When Fruit bats are old enough they sleep by themselves.

The adventures of Puffles the fluffy unicorn who could shapeshift and teleport through different dimensions
Image result for transparent rainbow unicorn fluffy
Chapter one
Wednesday 11th of April 2018

I woke up to the sound of chirping birds, high up in the sky. I looked down at my hands , but there was nothing but the pure gold hoofs of a unicorn and a soft rainbow layer of fur. I soon noticed that I wasn´t just in any backyard I was in a magical forest and I had wings of an angel and my fur was as fluffy as a giant marshmallow puff. I couldn't believe my eyes I was a unicorn and my majestical horn was made of such a soft and silky gold. I was on planet loopy lops an imaginary planet in the banana galaxy. Out the corner of my eye I saw a lotus flower swaying in the breeze of lily lake. Suddenly the lotus flower opened and a little fairy popped out. I  flew up into the air heading towards the lotus flower as fast as lighting bolts shooting down from a cotton candy cloud. I picked up the shiny , pink lotus flower and peeked inside. A baby water fairy was sleeping in the roots of the lotus flower , weaved into a cot. The little fairy was wearing a soft layer of pastel blue lotus petals crafted into a tiny dress. I carefully placed the lotus flower back down onto the lake and headed off towards a small village. In the village lived a pizzeria titled Freddy Fazbears pizza. I waddled inside the pizza place and a little maiden was dishing out 12 creamy ice cream spiders and 3 hawaiian pizzas to 12 hungry little kids about the same age as me. ¨Good day fellow unicorn what brings you here to Fazbears pizza¨, questioned the little maiden. ¨ I´m just going for a quick snack¨. My white furry tummy rumbled and everyone turned to look at me. I headed toward the counter where another little maiden was standing. ¨Welcome to Freddy Fazbears pizza how can I help you mischievous unicorn ¨ said the maiden in a low hollow tone. ¨ Can I please order 57 pizzas and an ice cream spider¨. ¨ Coming right up little unicorn did you want a couple of cookies to fill up your hungry tummy?¨. ¨ Yes please ¨. ¨ Your number is number 5 please find a seat and your order will be ready in 55 light years. ¨ Thank you miss¨. ¨ Have a nice day said the little maiden in an excited pleasure. 55 light years later . . . ¨ Number 5 please come up and collect your meal¨. ¨ I collected my snacks and hurried out the door of the pizzaria. I shapeshifted back in normal form and whistled for ra my pet elecorn Ra from the land of skywings and in a blink of an eye ra was here. I carefully filled Ra ś sachet with the snacks that I had just ordered and climbed onto Ra´s fluffy back and headed towards the sugar Queen's castle through the soft cotton candy clouds and through the moon kingdom past the Ice palace and through firefly forest and within 2 seconds I was there. My pet bat embmellabat  was trapped in her candy cane crafted jail prism for giving her rainbow radishes. I grabbed Ra ´s lickrish rope and tiptoed inside as secret as a sugar cane guard holding one of their candy cane sticks and wandering down the great tower of candy prisms making sure that no one escaped where Embmellabat my pet was being hold hostage. ¨ Yeeeeaaaah¨ winnie Ra as she clumped her feet through the cellar.¨Ra be quiet we are going to wake up the banana guards.Ra settled and as we walked through the cellar we found ourselves ambushed by a whole lot of banana guards. “ I told you to be quiet now we are never going to find Embmellabat¨. Out the corner of my eye I saw 100,000 kawaii zombies heading towards us , now it was my chance to save Embmellabat from those stinky cellars. I pulled out my rainbow sword made of pure unicorn tears and sliced the Zombies in one shot with Ra right by my side. I found a heart shaped sugar cane key and shoved it into my pocket and headed towards Embmellabats cellar on the 666th floor of the tower. It was the highest part of the tower and the worst state to be in I climbed onto Ra´s back and flew up to the 666th horror floor of the tower with 100 million banana guards chasing after me yelling¨SEIZE THEM!¨. I rescued Embmellabat and sliced a hole in the tower. The guards would never catch us now that we had escaped the 666th floor of the tower. I opened a portal back to earth and in no time I was in my bed fast asleep. What a great adventure I thought as I closed the portal and dreamed of my birthday this Sunday with my loving father Kore Walter Tombs. I knew that this would be the best unicorn birthday party in the whole universe and that I was never going to miss my chinese friend Maggie's birthday in nine days time because we would both be turning 10.

My embarrassing story

When you notice that you are actually inside a video game

There I was inside a video game called Five nights at Freddy's.’ I didn't understand why I was the night guard. I was as scared as a mouse trying to avoid traps all across the corridor. I soon noticed that I was in a night guard uniform. How embarrassing those outfits are security uniforms. I had absolutely no idea what to do. A little fan was blowing on my face as soft as candyfloss. I started sweating in my security guard uniform , so i decided to turn on my flashlight so that those scary animatronics wouldn't take my soul. Suddenly I heard a loud screaming noise showing up on camera 8. I was in Fazbears fright also known as FNAF 3. That horrifying noise must have been Springtrap’s fault aka Spring Bonnie.

I opened the next camera scanning for Springtrap to pop out of nowhere and
jumpscare me. I felt startled hearing those terrible noises. I was on the end of my seat wimping in terror trying as hard as I could not to be heard. I listened carefully hurdling under my desk. I soon noticed that my friend was calling after me. I felt mortified I was at ballet and this was my exam. What a noob I was forgetting my dance and daydreaming. I stumbled onto the floor like an idiot trying to go through a glass door. I had to prove to the examiner that I was better than this what a fool I was making of myself.

I decided to continue daydreaming like I wasn't even there until , I noticed that my Mother was actually watching me in my exam. I would get a bronze medal if I continued like this.

Now I know that I will never , ever daydream in my ballet exams ever again and make a fool of myself in front of my Mother ever again.
